Administrative division

According to the Charter of Chelyabinsk local self-government is performed on the territory of the city. The representative body is the Chelyabinsk City Council, which is formed for a term of five years.

The mayor is the chief executive and in accordance with the Charter of the city is vested his own authority to address local issues, is elected for five years by Chelyabinsk City Council from the candidates presented by the competitive commission, and heads the Administration of Chelyabinsk.

On August 25, 2015 appointment of the Mayor of Chelyabinsk took place. The contest committee consisting of representatives of the Legislative Assembly of Chelyabinsk Region, the Government of Chelyabinsk region, the Chelyabinsk City Council unanimously voted for Teftelev Evgeny Nikolaevich.

The executive-distribution body of Chelyabinsk is the City Administration. Its structure consists of structural subdivisions of the Administration of Chelyabinsk and industry (functional) bodies. According to the Law of Chelyabinsk region from June 10, 2014 No. 706-ZO "On the status of the Chelyabinsk City District and the status and boundaries of inner city areas as part of the Chelyabinsk City District," the city of Chelyabinsk is endowed urban district status with intercity division, which provides for the presence of seven districts in the city : Kalininsky, Kurchatovsky, Leninsky, Metallurgichesky, Sovietsky, Traktorozavodsky, Central - subject to their territorial integrity.

Districts are inner-city areas and are formed in order to ensure effective management of municipal economy and the social sphere of the territories.
